Geneva, Chairmain United
Kashmir Peoples National Party (UKPNP) and Secretary general
International Kashmir Alliance (IKA) Sardar Shaukat Ali Kashmiri has
said that the former Princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, is a hub of
terrorists needs proper attention |
Adressing the UN Human Rights Council, Second Session Shaukat Ali
Kashmiri stated that we are living in a complex political and social
environment. However, our civilization remains distinguishable from
other generations on our bench marks to assure promotion and protection
of human rights not only in the habitat that we are domiciled in but in
the whole of human habitat.
He said that in this regard the work of the Special Rapporteur on the
promotion and protection of human rights while countering terrorism is
very important.
His role “to develop a regular dialogue and discuss possible areas of
cooperation with all relevant actors, including Governments, relevant
United Nations bodies, specialized agencies and programmes, in
particular with the Counter Terrorism Committee of the Security Council,
the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the
Terrorism Prevention Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and
Crime, human rights mandate holders and treaty bodies, the Sub
Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, as well as
non-governmental organizations and other regional or sub regional
international institutions, fully respecting the respective mandates of
the above mentioned bodies and with a view to avoiding duplication of
effort” is very significant for the civil society and the various
Governments.
Mr. Kashmiri said that unfortunately, we see that States are using
countering terrorism to advance anti democratic agenda and the excuse
has come as a handy weapon to strangulate the human rights movement.
These States are using it as a cover to perpetuate their undemocratic
tenures and to bluff the world community, in regards to a serious
violation of human rights. |
